Some people have all the luck


There have been two seperate sky diving incidents this week with both individuals suriving. The first comes from Texas where a 16-year-old girl survived a 3000ft fall.

The other an experienced skydiver is knocked unconscious by another jumper while jumping from a plane but is saved by quick thinking friends.

A man in China purchased a first class ticket so he could eat first class meals for free. He kept the scheme going for a year before the airlines realized what he was up to.

In weirder news thieves stole a religious relic which contained some of Pope John Paul II's blood in it.

And finally a school teacher in California was charged with animal cruelty after more than 400 snakes were found in his apartment with over half of them dead.

Anyone for Tennis?


Upsets a plenty when big names were knocked out of contention at the Australian Open from the start but the show kept on going with Stanislas Wawrinka managing to beat Rafael Nadal taking the men's title.

Li Na took the women's title after her third trip to the finals at the Australian Open.

The men's double's title went to Lukasz Kubot and Robert Lindstedt in their first attempt at the Australian Open.

Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci retained the Australian women's doubles title beating Russia's Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina.

Finally Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic took the mixed double's title rounding off another Australian Open.

Warming up for a Winter Wonderland


With threats of attack from militants at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia security measures are in place with promises from Russia's Homeland Security.

Fans are helping raise money for the Jamaican bobsled team.

And proving that some people aren't gracious in defeat a Dutch speed skater "flipped the bird" at a rival after losing.


Sports Stars fading


After his controversial visit to North Korea, Denis Rodman has checked himself into rehab.

A-Rod decided to sue Major League Baseball and the Players Association which provided plenty of cannon fodder for the comics.

Entertainers started the year strong with shiny dresses and even shinier awards.

Up for grabs


The Golden Globes were held on Sunday with A-listers in droves and the hilarious Tina Fey and Amy Poehler bringing the laughs. But even with a night of glamour and beautiful dresses some fell short with Jennifer Lawrence's dress inspiring a few bad impersonations. In the end all that was left for the beautiful people was to party the night away.

The Critics Choice Awards saw 12 years a slave, American Hustle and Gravity cleaning up with Best Picture, Best Acting Ensemble and Best Director respectively.

Oscar nominations were announced with all the usual A-listers from Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio to Cate Blanchett and Sandra Bullock all vying for honours.

One of the most important awards of all announced it's nominee's with the 34th Annual Razzies nominating Adam Sandler (Grown Ups 2), Jaden Smith (After Earth), Lady Gaga (Machete Kills) and Katherine Heigl (The Big Wedding) among many for some pretty terrible performances.


Behaving badly...


1970's TV star David Cassidy was arrested for drunk driving. This is his third arrest since 2010.

Country singer Trace Adkins entered rehab for alcohol abuse.

Cops searched Justin Beiber's house after he threw egg's at his neighbours house. During the search a friend of Bieber's was arrested for cocaine possession.

And because it's not just Hollywood that's been bad, French actress Julie Gayet is suing a French magazine for claiming she is having an affair with French president Francois Hollande. 


Love in the air


Pamela Anderson re-married ex-husband Rick Saloman after they separated in 2008 with a mere 72 days of marriage.

Hayden Panettiere has been talking wedding planning and her transformation into Bridezilla.

Sean Penn and Charlize Theron made a public appearance together at Sean's Help Haiti Home gala proving they are a couple.

Finally Ashlee Simpson is engaged to Diana Ross' son, Evan Ross.

What happens at CES doesn't stay at CES


CES 2014 opened in Las Vegas this week with all the big names in the electronics firms in attendance.

Intel introduced RealSense designed to be a more "natural" human interface. Intel also debuted an SD sized computer which could be used in everyday items.

Samsung and LG wants your home to smarten up a bit trying to connect all your device's. Samsung introduced new smart TV's that are aware of when you are watching them and make suggestions based on viewing habits. Speaking of TV's Roku, the set-top streaming box, broke into the smart TV world when unveiled it's first smart TV .

Google announced the Open Automotive Alliance with Audi, GM, Honda, Hyundai and Nvidia to use android to power your car. But why stop there when you can let the car do all the work and drive you around.

When it came to gadgets Sony introduced the new SmartBand which works with a fitness tracker called Core. Sony clearly wants 4K to be the next big thing with a range of camcorders aimed at 4K. The internet of things took a step in the bizarre with a bluetooth connected toothbrush, presumably to prevent your teeth from turning blue.

Finally, Hollywood director Michael Bay had a mini meltdown and walked off the Samsung stage when the teleprompter went awry. Needs more explosions.

Virtual currencies doing well, virtually


Bitcoin had a bumpy start to the year starting high with the news of new Bitcoin ATM's heading for Hong Kong and Zynga announcing it would accept payment with Bitcoin. However it all went south when China's biggest e-commerce site, Alibaba, banned its sales on the website.

Still in the world of digital currency, Kanye West doesn't find Coinye funny making it that much funnier.

Random bits


It was revealed that users had been exposed to malware from Yahoo's advertising servers.

Eton College banned Snapchat from it's wireless internet system for fears of an outbreak of "sexting".

China finally lifted it's ban on game consoles allowing the heavy weights XBox and PS4 to battle it out in a new arena.

And lastly, sad news, big foot is dead. Apparently a "hunter" in the states shot big foot and is now touring the country with it's remains to prove it. Sorry science.
